Responsibilities:
- Research various tax related issues and conclude on their potential implications
- Assist in research and preparation of tax-planning strategies for our clients and on the preparation and review of complex tax returns
- Collect and analyze relevant financial and tax data
- Actively engage in tax compliance, planning and strategy development by analyzing client tax issues, relevant tax laws, provisions, and jurisprudence
- Develop and apply knowledge of the Canadian Income Tax Act and other tax related legislations
- Collaborate with engagement teams to plan timelines, risk assessments, and other documents
- Identify issues and errors, investigate discrepancies
- Assist in preparation of election forms
- Participate in business development initiatives and identify new business opportunities
- Other duties as assigned
Skills and Experience:
- You have completed or are pursuing your Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA) designation
- In progress of the CPA in-depth tax program or MTAX
- 3+ years of relevant experience in a senior role
- Possess enthusiasm for the profession and learning
- Strong computer literacy including effective working skills of Microsoft Excel and Word
- Strong interpersonal skills including excellent written and oral communication
- Customer service and/or client service experience is desirable

As the Operations Manager, you will report directly to the Managing Partner; in your role, you will be responsible for keeping the office organized by supporting a safe, productive and collaborative workspace for our employees in office. You will work closely with leadership to oversee companywide organizational flows and best practices. You will work with other members of the administrative team to support a growing professional services team. You will support a wide range of duties from people focused projects, delivering workplace experience needs, organizing employee activities and events, negotiating with vendors, partnering with IT, HR, Finance, supporting the Managing Partner and much more in the day-to-day life in our hybrid office environment.
Responsibilities:
- Develop, review and update operational standards, office procedures and policies
- Recommend and implement technology solutions that improve operational effectiveness
- Manage office expenses and budget
- Primary contact between the Firm and building management, making sure all facility needs are met
- Manage and organize the maintenance of our physical office location (cleaning, maintenance, repairs)
- Manage office equipment, inventory and records
- Coordinate IT needs, internally and liaise with our IT external company to assist employees to troubleshoot hardware, software and network system issues
- Coordinate hardware, software and network systems, including configuring and updating computers, printers and other hardware
- Maintain and update office records, such as inventory and vendors; manage contract negotiations with Finance, property management relationships
- Oversee and project manage any major office projects including but not limited to renovations, moves, office refresh, expansions etc.
- Manage corporate memberships and associations
- Manage and organize Firm events and meetings
- Oversee and manage the Administrative Team; support company administrative needs
- Owner of the Joint Health & Safety Committee and all health and safety efforts, including monthly safety inspections and regular meetings; communicate the Firm’s safety policies in accordance with applicable heath and safety standards and regulations
- Identify efficiencies in processes to ensure smooth and efficient office operations and contribute to improving communications and processes
- Responsible for a wide variety of administrative duties to support the Managing Partner
Skills and Experience:
- 3 – 5 years of relevant Operations/Office Management experience, preferably within a professional services environment
- Extensive knowledge of office management procedures
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Well versed in workplace systems, tools and platforms (MS Office, OneDrive and Teams)
- Experience partnering with Finance to build budgets for smooth office operations and HR to support the employee experience and events
- Proven track record to partner with all levels of the business effectively
- Solution oriented with the ability to take ownership of areas of responsibility
- Passionate about creating an engaging and inclusive workplace experience
- Proven ability to work independently; demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks
- Experience exercising discretion and confidentiality with sensitive Firm information

Our firm is looking for a dynamic Tax Manager to join our Tax Advisory Group. You will have the opportunity to work as a leading team member on client engagements in a growing mid-sized firm where you would be relied upon to provide tax advisory and direct the work of staff, including reviewing their work for accuracy and completeness. Additionally, you will research and prepare tax-planning strategies for our clients and take the lead on the preparation of complex tax returns. Our Tax Advisory Group will provide you the opportunity to work on publicly listed entities, specifically in the mining and extractive sectors, in providing tax advice on transactions, re-organization, and in-direct tax matters.
The firm’s mining tax practice focuses on providing tax services to mining companies that span the mine life cycle, from junior exploration to mid-tier operating companies with global operations. We are in search of a tax professional that has a desire to grow their in the mining industry. As a firm, we have expertise in the mining industry and are looking to develop the next generation of tax leaders in this area.
Responsibilities:
- Leading client engagements in the mining and/or extractive sectors
- Provide timely, high quality client service that meets or exceeds client expectations
- Working closely with a Partner as a senior team member on tax planning work for clients
- Planning and organizing teams for the preparation of tax returns and conducting and presenting tax research
- Become part of the tax engagement team in servicing the planning and compliance needs of clients
- Providing ongoing support and mentoring for the professional development of staff
- Work with other office members in attracting new work to the firm
- Identify performance improvement opportunities for team members
- Manage time appropriately across multiple projects
Skills and Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of current or recent experience in a public accounting environment, with experience in mining or extractive sectors
- CPA Certification
- Completed, or nearly completed the CPA In-Depth Tax Course, or MTAX program
- Excellent client service skills with the ability to understand the clients business
- Strong project management and organizational skills
- Highly motivated individual with a desire for growth
- Strong strategic planning and conceptual thinking skills
- Experience communicating complex tax matters both verbally and in written form. The ability to complete complex tax memorandums would be an asset.
