Our firm is looking for a dynamic Senior Associate to join our Assurance team.  You will have the opportunity to work as a team member on client engagements in a growing mid-sized firm where you would learn the fundamentals of audit, accounting and tax.  You will also have the opportunity to work on publicly listed entity audits, learning the nuances of preparing audit communications to the board of directors.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide timely, high quality client service that meets or exceeds client expectations including coordinating audits of financial statements, related disclosures, and other client deliverables
  • Demonstrate experience and ability to act as an in-charge on engagements
  • Collaborate with the engagement manager/senior manager and partners on engagement approach and execute on the plan using a risk-based approach
  • Recognize industry-specific and general accounting and auditing issues, including revenue recognition, financial instruments, and deferred tax provisions, etc.
  • Provide insightful feedback on financial statements and prepare other client deliverables such as board communications, deficiency letters, management letters, etc.
  • Supervise associates on engagement teams and function as an in-charge, monitoring and reporting regarding productivity and adherence to work plan and budget
  • Anticipate and address client concerns and escalate issues as they arise
  • Interact with clients to help ensure the information flow from client to audit team and vice versa is efficient
  • Identify and communicate significant accounting and auditing matters to manager/senior manager and partner on engagement
  • Identify performance improvement opportunities for team members
  • Manage time appropriately across multiple projects

Qualifications:

  • 2 – 4 years of current or recent experience in a public accounting environment
  • CPA Certification or demonstrated progress towards obtaining CPA certification (successfully passed CFE)
  • Understanding of audit services with knowledge of ASPE, IFRS and CASs

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with goodwill, intangible assets, impairment issues, valuations and related assumptions, stock-based compensation and equity

  • Develop and apply knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)
  • Utilize various tools and software through audit engagements
  • Collaborate with client engagement team prior to commencement of client work to discuss roles and responsibilities, risk areas, materiality, and deadlines
  • Assess appropriateness of audit evidence for cash, expenses, capital asset additions, prepaid expenses, and equity transactions
  • Review, investigate and correct discrepancies and irregularities in financial entries, documents, and reports
  • Assist in performing financial statement tie-outs
  • Develop a thorough understanding of firm’s services, businesses, and industry through experiential learning with clients
  • Learn about clients’ financial statement and business risks

Skills and Experience

  • Working towards the Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA) designation
  • Possess enthusiasm for the profession and learning
  • Strong computer literacy including effective working skills of Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Strong interpersonal skills including excellent written and oral communication
  • Customer service and/or client service experience is desirable

  • Assess appropriateness of work performed to meet the standards under CSRS4200 for compilation engagements.
  • Review, investigate and correct discrepancies and irregularities in financial entries, documents, and reports
  • Assist in preparing corporate financial statements and tax returns.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of firm’s services, businesses, and industry through experiential learning with clients
  • Learn about clients’ financial statement and business risks

Skills and Experience:

  • Working towards the Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA) designation
  • Possess enthusiasm for the profession and learning

  • Anticipate and address client concerns and escalate issues as they arise
  • Identify and communicate significant accounting and tax matters to manager/senior manager and partner on engagement
  • Identify performance improvement opportunities for team members
  • Manage time appropriately across multiple projects

Qualifications:
